The 7 SaaS metrics every founder must track.

Each card includes the formula, the 2026 benchmark, why it matters, and the gotcha that most dashboards get wrong. Click any metric to expand its detail.

01
MRRMonthly Recurring Revenue

Click to see formula, benchmark, gotchas.

Formula

Σ(active subscriptions × monthly contract value), excluding one-time charges and trialing accounts.

2026 benchmark

Healthy bootstrapped SaaS: 10–15% month-over-month growth pre-PMF. 5–10% post-PMF. Public SaaS: 2–4% post-IPO.

Why it matters

The single number that defines whether the business is growing. Everything else (CAC payback, valuation multiples) is computed against MRR.

Gotcha

Annual contracts must be divided by 12. Discounts must be subtracted. Trials excluded. Multi-currency must be normalised to one display currency — silently summing JPY + USD ships nonsense numbers.

02
ARRAnnual Recurring Revenue

Click to see formula, benchmark, gotchas.

Formula

MRR × 12. Or for annually-billed businesses, the sum of all annual contracts active right now.

2026 benchmark

Used for investor reporting and valuation multiples (10–20× ARR for high-growth SaaS in 2026).

Why it matters

Smoother than MRR for businesses with annual contracts. The metric investors quote.

Gotcha

Some teams compute ARR as last-month-MRR × 12, others as forward-12-month booked. Pick one and stick with it.

03
ChurnChurn Rate (customer + revenue)

Click to see formula, benchmark, gotchas.

Formula

Customer churn = customers lost ÷ customers at period start. Revenue churn = MRR lost ÷ MRR at period start.

2026 benchmark

B2B SaaS: <2%/mo customer churn, <1%/mo revenue churn is best-in-class. B2C SaaS: 5–7%/mo typical.

Why it matters

Revenue churn matters more than customer churn — losing one $5K/mo customer is worse than losing five $50/mo customers.

Gotcha

Voluntary vs involuntary churn (failed payments) should be separated. Most tools lump them together and ship misleading numbers.

04
LTVCustomer Lifetime Value

Click to see formula, benchmark, gotchas.

Formula

ARPU × gross margin ÷ customer churn rate. Or for cohort-precise: sum of revenue from a cohort over its lifetime.

2026 benchmark

LTV ÷ CAC should be > 3 for a healthy SaaS business. > 5 is rare but possible for low-touch products.

Why it matters

Tells you how much you can afford to spend acquiring a customer. Drives the entire paid-acquisition strategy.

Gotcha

The formula assumes constant churn — wrong for any SaaS with cohort churn variation. Use cohort LTV for any decision worth >$10K.

05
CACCustomer Acquisition Cost

Click to see formula, benchmark, gotchas.

Formula

Sales + marketing spend in period ÷ new customers acquired in same period.

2026 benchmark

CAC payback < 12 months is healthy. < 6 months is exceptional. > 24 months requires fundraising to bridge.

Why it matters

Combined with LTV, tells you whether unit economics work. CAC payback determines runway sensitivity.

Gotcha

Include all sales + marketing salary, not just paid-ad spend. Most tools only count ad spend and ship an LTV/CAC that flatters reality.

06
NRRNet Revenue Retention

Click to see formula, benchmark, gotchas.

Formula

(starting MRR + expansion + reactivation − churn − downgrades) ÷ starting MRR, measured per cohort over 12 months.

2026 benchmark

>100% is good. >120% is best-in-class (the cohort grows faster than churn shrinks it). <90% means new-customer acquisition is propping up the business.

Why it matters

The metric that separates compounding SaaS from treadmill SaaS. Investors weight it heavily.

Gotcha

NRR is per-cohort and per-time-window. A single number without those qualifiers is meaningless.

07
Gross marginGross Margin %

Click to see formula, benchmark, gotchas.

Formula

(Revenue − cost of revenue) ÷ revenue. Cost of revenue = hosting + payment processing + support headcount.

2026 benchmark

SaaS target: 75%+. Sub-65% suggests heavy infrastructure or support costs and limits future scalability.

Why it matters

Gross margin gates how much you can spend on sales + marketing and still have working unit economics.

Gotcha

Payment processing fees (Stripe 2.9% + $0.30) sneak into the calculation. Most tools forget to deduct them.

Section 02

The portfolio MRR problem.

Most SaaS dashboards assume you run one business on Stripe. But you run several — SaaS A on Stripe, SaaS B on Paddle, a mobile app on RevenueCat, a store on Shopify — and there's no single number for what your whole portfolio earns. Ploxir rolls them all up into one combined MRR (and still handles multiple billing platforms within a single business).

Three platforms, three MRR numbers

You log into Stripe. MRR widget says $32,140. You log into Paddle. MRR widget says €7,820. You log into Chargebee. MRR widget says $5,210 + $1,250 in plan MRR + add-on MRR.

What is your real MRR? Each platform defines it slightly differently:

  • Stripe excludes one-time charges and trialing accounts. Annual contracts divided by 12.
  • Paddle reports gross MRR including its take. Currency conversion happens at the daily fix rate, not transaction time.
  • Chargebee separates plan MRR from add-on MRR. Some teams report only plan; others include add-ons. Both are valid.
  • Multi-currency: a JPY subscription billed at ¥1,000 + a USD subscription billed at $10 cannot be summed without conversion. Most dashboards silently do this and ship nonsense.

Unify them by hand in a spreadsheet and the number is stale before lunch. Use a SaaS dashboard that only connects to Stripe and you get a partial picture. The right answer: one platform that normalises all three definitions to a shared standard before summing.

How Ploxir solves it
  • Single MRR definition across every billing platform: active recurring subscription × monthly contract value, excluding one-time charges, trials, and Paddle/Chargebee processor markup.
  • Multi-currency safe: detects primary currency by transaction volume per source. JPY + EUR + USD never silently summed.
  • Per-source breakdown on hover — see how much of your $48K MRR comes from each platform, in real time.
  • Webhook-driven — a new subscription updates the dashboard in seconds. Stripe, Paddle, and Lemon Squeezy register webhooks automatically; Chargebee and RevenueCat give you a URL to paste in.

Section 06

Frequently asked questions.

What is a SaaS metrics dashboard?
A SaaS metrics dashboard is a tool that aggregates subscription, billing, and customer data from your payment platforms (Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, RevenueCat, Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Whop, Outseta, Memberful) into one view, then computes the standard SaaS KPIs — MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, CAC, NRR — on top of it. The best modern SaaS dashboards do this in real time via webhooks and handle multi-currency safely.
What metrics should every SaaS founder track?
Seven metrics: MRR, ARR, customer + revenue churn, LTV, CAC, Net Revenue Retention (NRR), gross margin. The first four define growth; CAC + LTV define unit economics; NRR defines compounding; gross margin defines sustainability.
How do you compute MRR across Stripe + Paddle + Chargebee?
Carefully. Each platform has different MRR semantics — Stripe excludes one-time charges, Paddle includes them under "subscription_invoice" by default, Chargebee separates plan-MRR from add-on-MRR. Ploxir normalises all of them to the same definition (active subscription × monthly contract value, excluding one-time and trials) before summing. For multi-currency, set an optional workspace reporting currency and every number is converted with daily FX rates — without one, currencies are kept separate, never silently summed.
Is Ploxir better than ChartMogul or Baremetrics?
For multi-platform SaaS (Stripe + Paddle + Chargebee + RevenueCat) — yes. Ploxir connects all of them; ChartMogul connects Stripe + Paddle + Chargebee + Recurly; Baremetrics connects Stripe + Recurly + Chargebee + Braintree. Pricing: Ploxir $29/mo vs $129/mo for either. ChartMogul has deeper cohort retention math today for pure-Stripe SaaS; Ploxir wins on multi-platform + creator income + real-time.
Does Ploxir work for Stripe-only SaaS?
Yes — and it is the most cost-effective option. Same MRR / ARR / churn / LTV / NRR metrics as ChartMogul or Baremetrics at $29/mo Pro vs $129/mo. You also get future-proofing for when you add Paddle (EU VAT), Chargebee (enterprise), RevenueCat (mobile), or any non-subscription revenue source.
How fast does the dashboard update?
Live for webhook-backed platforms. Stripe, Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, and PayPal register webhooks automatically — a refund or new subscription appears on the dashboard in 1–2 seconds. Chargebee and RevenueCat give you a receiver URL to paste into their dashboards for the same live updates. Everything else syncs on a schedule, and the Refresh button syncs all sources on demand.
What about mobile subscriptions (RevenueCat, App Store, Play Console)?
Ploxir integrates RevenueCat natively and combines mobile MRR with web-side Stripe MRR in one view. ChartMogul, Baremetrics, and ProfitWell do not. App Store Connect is also supported directly — subscription revenue, renewals, cancellations, and trial conversion; Play Console adds Android vitals and ratings.
Is there a free SaaS metrics dashboard?
Ploxir is free for 3 projects with full webhook support and all SaaS billing integrations (Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, RevenueCat, Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Whop, Outseta, Memberful). Most solo founders never leave the free tier. ProfitWell / Paddle Metrics is also free but Stripe + Paddle only.

Connect your first billing platform in under 5 minutes.

3 projects free forever. No credit card. Add Stripe, Paddle, or Lemon Squeezy — webhooks register automatically (Chargebee and RevenueCat connect with a paste-in webhook URL). Watch MRR populate live.
